    Greatest entertainment era ever?
With all the useless channels we're forced to sift through to find the 5-10 programs we actually watch, I had to wonder today (as I'm sure most of us have at some point :-)

...why is there no 80's channel? All 80's, all the time? You could run 4 or 5 movies, 4 or 5 hours of cartoons and series, intersperse with commercials and hour-long music marathons from this wonderful era, and then just have silly infomercials or "I love the 80's" running late at night to help funding. Right? Right. Right?

If you included the very late 70's and very early 90's - which most of us include in the awesomenessocity of our childhood programming anyway - I doubt you'd run out of programming anytime soon. And I know I most likely wouldn't watch much else. Please don't tell me this channel exists and I've just missed it, that would make me a saaaaaaaaaaad panda.

On a side note, why are they allowed to say the naughty version of "butt-orifice" on TBS? I didn't think that was kosher, especially at 1400 on a Saturday.

    Just a thought. Or two.

    Boston-bound...again!
    Quick notice...

I have to do some of my contract work on location in Boston over the next few days, as well as a Discovery Channel voice-over gig in Watertown next week, so I'm headed up to Boston sometime tomorrow.

As always, there will be funning, drinking, eating, skating, and walking the city top to bottom, so let me know if you're in town and would like to hang out, I know I do.

    Bye for now,

    Where's Nicholas? There he is!
Now that Em has been properly surprised, I can announce my weekend location...back in the greatest city on earth, Boston.

Came up Friday afternoon, went and saw Emily in The Tempest, wherein she was tempestuous and also very The. Thanks to all who kept it a surprise.

If you're in the general Bean-area and wish to hang out, I'll probably putz around here until Monday or Tuesday. All I want to do is see as many friends as possible, go skating on the Fwoggy Pond, walk all over town and eat at various favorite restaurants, and MAYBE get some sleep in between. Maybe.

    Lemme know!

    Rest in Peace, Mr. Auerbach.
"The Boston Celtics are not a basketball team, they are a way of life."

Largely responsible for their legacy and for me running around the base courts with Bird's # 33 when I was a youngster, Red Auerbach remains one of the few "untouchables" in the history of Boston sports management.

And in Boston, that's saying a lot - wish I could've seen you coach, but thanks for the memories anyway.

    For all my Germanophiles...
Tonight, a very young pitcher started the game for the Seattle Mariners. He got knocked around early and often, allowing 8 hits and 5 earned runs over 6 innings. However, he did show on-and-off flashes of massive potential for future success.

    Standing 6-3 and 190 pounds, born August 22nd, 1985...

    Ryan...Feierabend. That's right. FEIERABEND.

Now, can we all join hands and hope for the day when he starts dominating, so that some savvy and worldly announcer can see him taking the field and go...

    "Uh oh...Ryan's in...jetzt ist Feierabend."

    HA!

    Goodbye DC!
Welp, the decision has been made. Rustopher and I talked it over, and the word is...westward. Ho.

So, in about 10 days, I'm throwing clothes, computers, books, and dog in the car and heading up and out.

Around the 15th/16th, up to NJ/NY,
then up to Boston around the 18th/19th,
then out to Ohio (yay Kit-Kat),
then out to Minnesota/Wisconin (yay Ramy and co.),
then out to Montana (yay Montana Max),
    then out to Spokane, WA!

My mother, father, and brother will all be there and I'm surprising two thirds of them by just showing up with the pup. I will play referee there for two weeks, then leave the dog with my brother as I make intermittent visits to the City of Angels to establish beach-heads in the spheres of housing, part-time? employment, and the industries of film, television, and/or theatre. Yes, you may start your snickering now.

    ------------- personal musings below ------------------

For now, I've had enough of DC, plain and simple. I can never truly and honestly call moving away from Boston a mistake, or regret it too fiercely, as I would have never found Rustopher otherwise. As most of you know how I feel about finding him after losing Bubbles...'nuff said.

I came down here to work in the arena of international politics/relations/studies/etc., as I thought it would be far more available here than in the Hub, the greatest city in the world. I loved living in Virginia and working on the Hill, and then made a second move (even more idiotic than my move from Boston) to Maryland and a "law firm." No more needs to be said about that waste of my life, I met some nice people and got Rustopher and I'll count my blessings that I got out when I did.

For the last 5 months, I've found relatively steady film and television work in the area, nothing too amazing - though I am certainly happy I have an international promotion and a regional commercial (CT/NY/NJ/DE/MD) to my credit already. The point being that there is nothing keeping me in the area in the immediate future:

I get my Foreign Service Exam scores in July, but can schedule the oral exam on the West Coast just as easily as in this area.

I have more than adequate board-scores and recommendations to provide a legitimate shot at a good/great? International Relations program in 2007.

So...for the next year...what the heckfire am I doing here? Nothing, which is why I'm going to give the dream, however stereotypical, the shot it deserves, and not end up an old and tired man asking myself what could have been. Just an old and tired man with another year's worth of adventure in his past.

Maybe I'll see some more familiar, smiling faces along the long and winding road...I sure hope so, anyway.

    Bye for now,

    NFB.

Trip update II (missed the NYC update here)
Whoohoo, I'm in Boston again! So very very very happy to be back in the greatest city on earth.

Yesterday was a perfect welcome back, since Trishers finagled two great seats to see Sox throttle Rays...so I've already hit Fenway, and today it's off to the Common (and probably Bull and Finch for lunch, where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came and you can sit alongside tourists saying "it looks nothing like the TV show, this stinks!") to drink Dunkies and wander around for hours. And hours.

    Don't know why I left.

Anyway, if you're in the Boston area and wish to hang, send me smoke signals.

    Peace out Seacrest.

    - Me.
